the shooting range

February 22nd, 2012

Last week I went to the shooting range with my dad! It’s one of the most fun things I have ever done! I like shooting the rifle much better than the handgun because it is less loud, much easier and doesn’t push you back! What you do when you see a lost gun: stop, walk away and tell an adult. A really important rule is to never point a gun at somebody whether loaded or not loaded NEVER DO IT! Another good rule is to never dryfire(fireing a gun with out a cartridge in the chamber) a gun the gun will get internally damaged. A great rule is always wear safety goggles and ear phones incase a bullet shell flies into your eye. Where headphones because when you fire a gun it is really loud (rifle is not that loud sometimes I dont need ear phones its not loud at all) especially handgun. Always point the gun in a safe direction never towards a animal(only if hunting that animal)or human. Before you buy a gun you have to wait 10 days because if you are buying a gun to kill somebody you hate you have to calm down before getting the gun so your not mad any more. Heres the link to the gun safety website created by the NRA. MY rifle is a Ruger .22 long rifle named boomstick mcshootington! I also have a scope! the sight is a Leupold 2-7×33 mm!

I found a awesome game called ROBLOX! Its a epic game kinda like Minecraft except there is a lot of more stuff like working cars and planes and the items in it are more 3D and most of the stuff is non cubo-morphic. You can buy Robux or buy a premium builders club account like i will. you will get to go on private servers and get daily Robux! you use Robux to buy things like gear and outfits from the Roblox catalog. you can even create your own world for people to play solo or multi player. heres the link to the Roblox site

Making Chainmail Armor, Part 1: The Jig

February 10th, 2012

Yesterday I began the first phase of my chainmail project: making the jig.

The jig is 3 pieces of wood hammered together to make a box with no roof and with two parallel sides. There are little holes in the middle of the two parallel sides where the dowel will go. Take a variable speed drill and connect the dowel to the drill.  Make sure the dowel has a hole in it so you can stick the wire into it.

Take the wire and stick the loose end into the hole in the dowel then put on heavy duty leather gloves (in case your hands get stuck in the wire). Now run the drill at a very slow speed and carefully wrap the wire around the dowel (the drill will do this automatically). Then take the wire off the dowel and you’ll have  a product that looks somewhat like a spring. Now take your wire cutters and shear straight down the length of the coil. This will make chain rings. To be continued…

Going to Home Depot to get the stuff was actually pretty fun.  My favorite part was getting Almond Joy afterwards. Coconut and almonds and chocolate? So awesome.

We built the jig at the barn where we keep our horse Jack.  I made a new friend there named Aiden. He’s pretty legit. He also likes making things too, but he has never made chainmail armor. He bought his on the internet. He thinks that making chainmail is harder than it looks, but it doesn’t look very hard to me. It looks really easy.  I guess we’ll see.
